OUR HISTORY

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

P & K Sand & Gravel was founded in 1970 as a partnership between Clinton Plummer and Ronald Knight. In 1971, Clint bought out his partner and became the sole proprietor.

EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNING

After acquiring full control of the company, Clint moved the base of operations from Route 302 in Naples to his home on Edes Falls Road where his wife, Lois, assumed the secretarial role for the company.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

In 1975 Clint's oldest son Bruce, joined the family business, which at the time, employed a total of 7 employees. Clint's second son, Jeff, soon followed in his brother and father’s footsteps and joined the company in 1979. Soon after, the company purchased its first excavator on tracks opening new market opportunities for larger commercial projects.

A NEW HOME

It was soon evident that with business booming, while also employing over 20 people, that it was time to find a new home. So, Clint went on the hunt for what would be the current home of P&K's home base. In 1985 the building that would become the main office was moved to its current location. The building itself was moved and repurposed from another Naples business that used to be a filling station on the Naples Causeway. On April 1,1989, after the acquisition of the Flagg Pit on the River Road in Naples, P&K decided to become incorporated, becoming P&K Sand & Gravel, Inc.

EXPANSION TO HEATH QUARRY

In 1991, a second partner company of P&K, CBJ Property INC, bought the land that is now the Heath Quarry location.  Acquiring this land greatly increased the amount and type of product P&K could produce.

JEFF'S DREAM

For years Clint's son Jeff envisioned a concrete division of P&K being a great addition to the company. In 1995 Jeff began drawing up plans to pitch the idea to his father. Being the numbers man of the company, he put a lot of work and effort into the planning of what was to eventually become the concrete division of P&K. Unfortunately, Jeff never saw his dream come to fruition due to a fatal car crash.  However, his dream lived on. For 25 years the batch plant delivered concrete to thousands of customers. So, if you live in the Lake Region area it very well could be that the foundation your house sits on concrete from our plant, poured by team.

MEETING PRODUCTION GOALS

To increase the amount of production in 2006, Clint, along side his grandson, Cory, oversaw the installation of a much safer and modern crusher plant that chugged along for over 15 years until its eventual replacement in 2020.

PASSING THE TORCH

In 2006 Clint handed over the reins of P&K President to his son, Bruce, who helped grow the company and kept his father's vision moving forward. He was also instrumental in finishing what his brother Jeff started with the concrete division. Bruce ran the company for 14 years until his passing in 2020 after a courageous battle against cancer.

THE NEXT GENERATION

In 2020 Clint's grandson, Cory Mitchell (below left), assumed the role of President while his other grandson, Matt Plummer (below right), assumed the role of Vice President. P&K's family-owned and operated roots continue on with the third generation!

BUILDING A 50-YEAR REPUTATION

Long-term relationships and repeat customers exist because of strong foundations set on quality work and honest service. For five decades our team has recommended and built solutions to some of the area’s most unique excavation projects. Our operations have flexed with market conditions and business decisions, but one thing remains the same: “We’ve built hundreds of projects, but only ONE reputation.” As part of our 40th anniversary celebrations we launched that tagline–and, a decade later, it remains. Trust P&K Sand and Gravel to stand by our work, and our word—always.
